About the University

NC A&T is a public, land-grant doctoral university in Greensboro, North Carolina, and one of seventeen constituent institutions of the University of North Carolina System. Founded in 1891, NC A&T is the nation's largest historically Black college or university (HBCU) and the oldest public historically Black land-grant university in the country.

As NC A&T advances the goals of Preeminence 2030: NC A&T Blueprint, the University continues to invest in academic excellence, student success, and campus development. This momentum has positioned NC A&T to become the nation's only public HBCU with Carnegie R1 (Very High Research Activity) status, reflecting its growing national prominence and commitment to innovation, discovery, and impact. With steady enrollment growth over the past decade, the University now serves more than 15,000 students through a broad portfolio of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs. As a leading STEM institution, A&T produces more African American engineers and agricultural scientists than any university in the nation and is also home to the top public HBCU business school in the country. The University employs approximately 2,000 full-time faculty and staff.
