Associate Therapist

About the Role

The Associate Therapist works within a dynamic multidisciplinary team to provide treatment services according to the Center for Discovery Clinical Model. Responsibilities include ensuring patient safety, delivering milieu interventions, leading psychoeducational and process-oriented therapy groups, facilitating clinical assessments, conducting therapy sessions, and performing case management tasks.

Responsibilities

• Ensure clinical documentation is completed timely throughout the course of treatment.
• Establish therapeutic rapport with patients and families/loved ones.
• Facilitate admission assessments and the admission process for new patients with professionalism and courtesy.
• Participate in weekly treatment team meetings and communicate weekly treatment goals with all team members.
• Complete the appropriate number of therapy sessions weekly for patients, including family/support system sessions aligned with the patient’s level of care:
  • RTC: two individual sessions and one family/support system session
  • PHP: one individual session and one family/support system session
  • IOP: one therapeutic session—individual or family/support system, as clinically indicated
• Facilitate process-oriented and psychoeducational groups one to two times daily.
• Sit at a meal and/or snack with patients a minimum of once per week.
• Facilitate multi-family groups, family programs, and/or family weekends.
• Provide utilization reviews to insurance companies to obtain initial and continuing stay authorization.
• Assess patients for suicidality and potential danger to self or others.
• Begin discharge planning on the day of admission for all patients.
• Complete discharge sessions to ensure coping skills, transition plans, and resources are understood.
• Confirm discharge appointments with patients and loved ones prior to discharge.
• Communicate with referral sources and outpatient providers for continuity of care at admission, midpoint, and discharge.
• Facilitate patient transfers to a higher level of care as needed.
• Actively participate in clinical outreach and program tours.
• Effectively manage crises in sessions and the milieu.
• Provide support to milieu staff in interactions with patients and their loved ones.
• Collaborate with the entire treatment team and milieu staff to ensure the highest level of clinical quality.
• RTC Only: Provide on-call support to the facility at least once per month and return all program phone calls within 20 minutes while on call.
• Communicate appropriately with the On-Call Administrator or Regional Director regarding pertinent facility issues while on call.

Requirements

• Master’s or Doctorate degree in a relevant field.
• Completion of state requirements to conduct therapeutic interventions.
• Operates under supervision and is not licensed.
• Obtain CPI certification within 90 days of hire.
• Obtain CPR, AED, and First Aid certification within 90 days of hire.
• Obtain ServSafe certification within 90 days of hire.
• Must possess a current driver’s license and be in good standing.

Core Competencies

• Ability to run groups effectively, demonstrated by providing a check-in, engaging all members, and structuring the group format.
• Effective writing and communication skills, demonstrated by documentation review, email timeliness, and verbal communication with staff and patients.
• Ability to support meal prep and meal support, including accurate portioning, following kitchen safety and sanitation guidelines, engaging patients during meals, and providing redirection as needed.
• Ability to develop individualized treatment plans based on patient’s assessed needs, including identified problems, goals, outcome measures, and patient-stated needs.
• Ability to use clinical judgment to determine risk levels, document, and respond accordingly.
• Ability to build therapeutic alliance and rapport with patients and families, demonstrated by setting up scheduled sessions, documenting sessions, and maintaining records of external contact.

Physical Demands

• Engage in sustained power grasping and pushing/pulling motions.
• Exposure to dust, gas, odors, liquids, or fumes.
• Intermittent lifting and carrying up to 40 pounds, transporting objects by hand, arm, or shoulder.
• Hand/eye coordination for performing work using both hands.
• Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations, which may involve running or moving rapidly.
• Frequent standing and walking for extended periods, often throughout the entire shift.
• Potential exposure to infectious diseases, bloodborne pathogens, and hazardous materials, requiring adherence to safety and PPE protocols.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Pay

Pay Range: $70,304 - $75,000 annually.

Work Location

Onsite - Glenview, IL.
