About the role

Apeiro Design is seeking an Associate Designer with architectural training and experience in the design of performing arts facilities. This role is based in either New York City or San Francisco and works closely with Senior Associates, Associate Principals, and Principals to support all phases of project design and consulting services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide primary room design services for a variety of performing arts and immersive entertainment venue types and scales.
  • Interface with Architectural, Structural, Acoustical, and MEP team members to ensure coordination of all applicable elements.
  • Work on multiple projects of various sizes and complexity at any given time.
  • Manage projects and collaborate with studio staff.
  • Collaborate with architects and engineers outside of our office.
  • Maintain a positive and productive relationship with Clients (Owners, Developers, Architects).
  • Ensure timely deliverables within a project schedule.
  • Support repeat business with existing clients.
  • Develop relationships with peers that will lead to future business.
  • Perform assigned duties to the best of ability and faithfully observe obligations to the firm.
  • Ensure security and confidentiality of project and intellectual property information.
  • Adhere to requirements as documented in the employee handbook.

Key Competencies and Skills

  • Strong computer skills - 5+ years' experience with AutoCAD and REVIT.
  • Familiarity with theatrical lighting, rigging, stage machinery, audio, video and communication systems and distribution infrastructure/network technologies.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Team player able to work harmoniously and effectively in a creative studio environment.
  • Strong communication skills, visual, written and verbal.
  • Self-starter and able to work independently and productively.
  • Knowledge of basic clerical practices and procedures.
  • Initiative, independent judgment and creative problem solving.
  • Demonstrated grace under pressure.

Education and Experience

  • 5+ years’ experience in performing arts production and/or design for live performance and facilities systems design, or architectural design services.
  • Baccalaureate degree in theatre production/technical management, architectural design, engineering or equivalent industry experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • Held in high regard in the industry.
  • Based out of either of our San Francisco or New York offices.
  • Works in a general office and creative studio environment.
  • Primary schedule is Monday to Friday with nights and weekends as needed for project deadlines.
  • Current hybrid in-office schedule Tuesday-Thursday.
  • Authorized to work in the United States and provide identification sufficient to complete all necessary government forms.
  • Employment will be conditioned on successful completion of background checks.
  • Ability to safely, frequently and independently move and handle twenty-five pounds.
  • Ability to work in low-light environments typical to backstage areas.
  • Ability to move safely and independently at construction work sites.
  • Ability to climb a ladder.
  • Ability to work at a desk with a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to communicate clearly on a telephone.
  • Able to regularly speak and write in English.
  • Specific vision abilities required are close vision, middle distance vision and color vision.
