About the Role

The primary focus of this position is to perform duties in a manufacturing environment within areas including Surfacing, Finishing, and Coating. All duties and procedures must be performed according to established standards and in compliance with company and governing body policies. Regular, prompt attendance and availability for overtime as needed are required.

Responsibilities

  • Coating Clipping: Clip and secure lenses into baskets to begin the coating process.
  • Machine Operator: Prepare and operate the coating machine to coat lenses properly. Load and unload sectors with lenses.
  • Inspection: Inspect lenses prior to and immediately after the coating process to ensure optical and cosmetic accuracy and compliance with the work ticket.
  • Sandblasting: Disassemble and clean machines daily, including sandblasting of parts.
  • Finishing Mounting: Accurately apply drill holes to lenses to ensure proper fit and alignment, and insert lenses into frames. May utilize the bevel wheel to remove sharp edges of the lens.
  • Edging Operator: Operate a variety of edging machines to cut lenses to the proper size and shape to fit the appropriate frame.
  • Finish Layout: Prepare an uncut lens for the edging process by outlining center/alignment markings and affixing the chuck/block.
  • Tinting: Accurately tint all lenses going through the tinting department.
  • Surfacing Lens Preparation: Prepare lenses for the surfacing process, including de-boxing, taping exposed lens surfaces, and tray setup.
  • Machine Operator Taping: Operate taping equipment to apply protective tape to the front of lenses.
  • Surfacing Blocker: Utilize the blocking machine to accurately secure a block to all lenses going through the surfacing department.
  • Generator Operator: Operate the generator machine used to cut lenses to the correct prescription.
  • Surface Finer/Polisher: Operate equipment used to fine and polish all lenses going through the surfacing department.
  • Spin Coat Operator: Operate the coating machine to apply spin coat and perform a cosmetic inspection of the lenses.
  • Lens Washer: Hand wash and dry lenses, followed by a brief cosmetic inspection. Remove blocks and tape from lenses.

Requirements

  • Able to work in a fast-paced production environment and regularly collaborate with others in a team.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions and short correspondence in English.
  • Basic ability to add, subtract, understand decimal numerical sequencing, and accurately compare number and letter sequences.
  • Requires close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Capable of coordinated use of hands and fingers to grasp, feel objects, transfer small items, perform fine manipulation, and bilateral reach with arms.
  • Able to plan, organize, develop, implement, interpret goals, objectives, policies, and procedures; multitask, prioritize, and use good judgment.
  • Able to stand in one place for 10-12 hours a day.
  • Capable of completing activities that include repetitive motions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school education or equivalent.
  • Previous related experience and/or training.

Pay

Pay range: $19.79 – $28.37 per hour. Employee pay is determined by multiple factors, including geography, experience, qualifications, skills, and local minimum wage requirements. In addition, you may be offered a competitive bonus and/or commission plan.
