Associate Teacher (University Child Development Center)
About the role
The Associate Teacher supports the Head Teacher in the planning and implementation of an early childhood program for a class of children at the University Child Development Center. This role involves maintaining a safe, engaging classroom environment, assessing children's needs, and communicating effectively with parents and guardians.
Associate Teachers act as the Head Teacher in their absence, supervise staff and University students, and respond to parent/guardian inquiries. They are also responsible for maintaining compliance with DHS regulations, NAEYC standards, and Keystone STARS requirements, as well as completing 12 hours of professional development annually.
Responsibilities
- Support the Head Teacher in planning and implementing an early childhood program.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and engaging classroom environment.
- Assess and address children’s needs, ensuring their well-being and development.
- Act as the Head Teacher in their absence, including supervising staff and University students.
- Respond to parent and guardian inquiries and needs.
- Ensure compliance with DHS regulations, NAEYC standards, and Keystone STARS requirements.
- Complete 12 hours of professional development annually.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED.
- 30 credits in a human service field.
- One year of verified experience working with young children.
- Associate’s degree (minimum).
- Must obtain and maintain PA Act 153 clearances: PA State Police Criminal Record Check, FBI Criminal Record Check, and PA Child Abuse History Clearance.
Physical Effort
The role involves occasional and sustained physical tasks, including traversing rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stooping, moving quickly through spaces, and lifting or carrying children up to 40 pounds. Exposure to outdoor elements, bloodborne and airborne pathogens, and potential non-disabling injuries or illnesses is possible.
Schedule
Full-time, regular position with varied shifts between Monday and Friday, 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM.
