Associate Systems Engineer-Fire IT
About the role
The Systems Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting the Philadelphia Fire Department. OIT is seeking a team player who is enthusiastic about making a positive impact in public safety and technology.
Responsibilities
- Ensure optimal systems and infrastructure availability at all times
- Provide strategic and practical recommendations for continuous service improvement
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality outcomes aligned with organizational policies, guidelines, and procedures
- Manage and support endpoints using Microsoft Intune, or other endpoint management systems
- Develop and deploy system images across environments
- Possess in-depth knowledge of virtualization technologies, including VMware and Hyper-V
- Administer virtual environments, including VM creation, migration, and ongoing maintenance
- Perform Level 3 troubleshooting and resolution of complex system issues
- Oversee storage management and conduct proactive capacity planning
- Manage enterprise backup solutions to ensure data integrity and availability
- Conduct routine and advanced server management tasks
- Plan, schedule, and implement software and firmware upgrades
- Serve as the primary support resource for critical infrastructure systems
- Lead application upgrade, deployment, and migration efforts
- Oversee system integration through API management and configuration
- Administer and monitor server performance to maintain optimal system health
- Address infrastructure-related security concerns and evolving system needs
- Implement, manage, and maintain Active Directory, including Group Policy Objects (GPO)
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or higher from an accredited four-year college or university in Computer Science or a related field preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in solution engineering, system upgrades, patch management, and enterprise backup and recovery
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and time management abilities
- Effective decision-making and critical thinking skills
- Solid understanding of information security and network security principles
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Solid understanding of Active Directory management
- Advanced knowledge of PowerShell scripting for systems automation and management
- Familiarity with industry-standard security protocols including SSL, TLS, IPsec, HTTPS, SFTP, and Kerberos
- Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure or time-sensitive environments

- Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000
