Associate Specialist, Patient Access

About the role
The Patient Access Associate Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring a seamless and positive patient experience by accurately managing patient registration and access processes within the healthcare revenue cycle. This role ensures data integrity, regulatory compliance, and a positive patient experience while directly influencing revenue cycle KPIs such as registration accuracy, point-of-service collections, and first-pass claim rates. Serves as the first point of contact for patients onsite in healthcare facilities and are essential in supporting clinical and financial operations for financial health through accurate data entry, auditing, and communication. Strong attention to detail, compassion, and adherence to policies are essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Accurately assign Medical Record Numbers (MRNs) and complete medical necessity and compliance checks.
- Collect and verify patient demographic and insurance information, including point-of-service collections and payment plans.
- Process physician orders, explain consent forms, retrieve required patient signatures, and distribute patient education documents.
- Utilize auditing and reporting systems to ensure account accuracy and compliance and conduct audits as needed.
- Communicate patient financial responsibilities clearly and professionally.
- Deliver exceptional customer service with empathy and professionalism in all interactions.
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA guidelines.
- Support other employees, departments, and facilities as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned, including answering phones, supporting other facilities, and completing administrative tasks.
