Associate Scientist, In Vivo Pharmacology

In the Cell Therapy Thematic Research Center, you’ll drive leadership in cellular therapies to harness the power of the immune system in treating hematologic malignancies, solid cancers, and autoimmune disease. As an Associate Scientist in the In Vivo Pharmacology group, you will contribute to the evaluation of novel therapeutic candidates by designing and executing preclinical in vivo studies, with a focus on tumor models and immune-mediated disease systems. This laboratory-based role requires strong technical expertise, scientific rigor, and collaboration within a multidisciplinary research environment.

Responsibilities

• In Vivo Study Execution (Oncology & Immunology)
  • Design and conduct in vivo studies in murine models of cancer and immune-mediated diseases (e.g., inflammation, autoimmune models).
  • Perform compound dosing (IV, IP, SC), tumor measurements, clinical scoring, and animal monitoring.
  • Execute complex animal procedures (e.g., tumor implantation, immune cell transfers, longitudinal sampling).
  • Operate IVIS imaging independently.
• Data Analysis & Reporting
  • Collect and analyze experimental data using tools such as GraphPad Prism, Excel, or similar.
  • Troubleshoot experimental issues and maintain accurate electronic lab notebook (ELN) records.
  • Prepare study summaries, contribute to data presentations, and support regulatory or project documentation.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with Oncology and Immunology project teams and present findings at team meetings.
  • Contribute to scientific strategy discussions and interface with external collaborators or CROs as needed.
• Laboratory Operations & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with BMS policies, IACUC regulations, and animal welfare standards.
  • Maintain lab supplies, equipment, and study materials.
  • Participate in continuous improvement of in vivo models and workflows.

Qualifications

• Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 2+ years of academic and/or industry experience.
• Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Immunology, Oncology, Pharmacology, or related field.
  • 2+ years of relevant in vivo experience (industry preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with in vivo pharmacology and rodent handling.
  • Proficiency in dosing techniques and sample collection (e.g., IV/IP injections, blood/tissue harvest).
  • Experience with oncology tumor models and/or immunology disease models.
  • Strong experience with IVIS imaging.
  • Strong data analysis and organizational skills, scientific curiosity, and problem-solving mindset.
  • Attention to detail and data integrity.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple studies in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working in matrixed, cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with imaging techniques, biomarkers, or molecular assays.

Pay

Starting compensation range for this full-time role in Cambridge, MA: $97,490 - $118,131. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. Final compensation will be determined based on demonstrated experience.

This role follows BMS’s occupancy structure, which determines work location based on job responsibilities:

• Site-by-design roles (e.g., this position) may be eligible for a hybrid work model with at least 50% onsite at the assigned facility. Onsite presence is critical for collaboration, innovation, productivity, and culture.
• Field-based and remote-by-design roles require physical travel to visit customers, patients, or business partners and attend meetings as directed.
