Associate Scientist, In Vivo Pharmacology

About the Role

Bristol Myers Squibb is seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist to join the In Vivo Pharmacology group supporting Oncology and Immunology discovery programs. The successful candidate will contribute to the evaluation of novel therapeutic candidates by designing and executing preclinical in vivo studies, with a focus on tumor models and immune-mediated disease systems. This role is laboratory-based and requires strong technical expertise, scientific rigor, and collaboration within a multidisciplinary research environment.

Responsibilities

• In Vivo Study Execution (Oncology & Immunology)
  • Laboratory-based role requiring routine animal work.
  • Design and conduct in vivo studies in murine models of cancer and immune-mediated diseases (e.g., inflammation, autoimmune models).
  • Perform compound dosing (IV, IP, SC), tumor measurements, clinical scoring, and animal monitoring.
  • Perform complex animal procedures (e.g., tumor implantation, immune cell transfers, longitudinal sampling).
  • Proficient with IVIS imaging and operate independently.
• Data Analysis & Reporting
  • Collect and analyze experimental data using tools such as GraphPad Prism, Excel, or similar.
  • Troubleshoot experimental issues.
  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic lab notebook (ELN) records.
  • Prepare study summaries, contribute to data presentations, and support regulatory or project documentation.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with Oncology and Immunology project teams.
  • Present findings at team meetings and contribute to scientific strategy discussions.
  • Interface with external collaborators or CROs as needed.
• Laboratory Operations & Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with BMS policies, IACUC regulations, and animal welfare standards.
  • Maintain lab supplies, equipment, and study materials.
  • Participate in continuous improvement of in vivo models and workflows.

Requirements

• Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 2+ years of academic and/or industry experience.
• Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Immunology, Oncology, Pharmacology, or related field.
  • Typically 2+ years of relevant in vivo experience (industry preferred).
  • Hands-on experience with in vivo pharmacology and rodent handling.
  • Proficiency in dosing techniques and sample collection (e.g., IV/IP injections, blood/tissue harvest).
  • Experience with oncology tumor models and/or immunology disease models.
  • Strong experience with IVIS imaging.
  • Strong data analysis and organizational skills, scientific curiosity, and problem-solving mindset.
  • Strong attention to detail and data integrity.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple studies in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working in matrixed, cross-functional teams desired.
  • Familiarity with imaging techniques, biomarkers, or molecular assays desired.

Pay

Cambridge, MA, US: $97,490 - $118,131. The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills, where the job is performed, the employee’s work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.

Schedule

This role follows BMS’s occupancy structure, which determines where an employee is required to conduct their work. This position is site-by-design, eligible for a hybrid work model with at least 50% onsite at the assigned facility. Onsite presence is considered an essential job function and is critical to collaboration, innovation, productivity, and a positive company culture.
