About the role
The Associate Revenue Accountant at Instructure, Inc. supports the revenue accounting team by ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting related to revenue recognition in compliance with ASC 606 and company policies.
Responsibilities
- Aid in month-end and quarter-end close processes for revenue and deferred revenue accounts.
- Prepare and review journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for revenue-related transactions.
- Analyze revenue contracts to ensure proper revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606.
- Collaborate with sales, legal, and operations teams to understand contract terms impacting revenue.
- Support preparation of schedules and analyses for internal and external auditors.
- Aid in the development and improvement of revenue accounting processes and controls.
- Participate in special projects as needed to support the accounting department.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation for all revenue-related activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 1-3 years of experience in accounting, with a focus on revenue recognition preferred.
- Solid understanding of U.S. GAAP, particularly ASC 606.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., VLOOKUP, pivot tables).
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP) is a plus.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
