About the Role

The Associate Project Manager is responsible for the overall planning, direction, management, coordination, implementation, execution, control, and completion of specific projects according to specifications, within budget from initiation through completion. This role leads Joint Project Teams (JPTs), applies professional principles, practices, and techniques to manage and control project schedule, cost, and performance risk to ensure projects are completed within constraints such as time, budget, people, quality, and materials. This role typically handles non-critical, standardized small projects or identifiable elements within larger projects. Work is primarily achieved through project teams, relying on the ability to influence and negotiate with parts of the organization where formal authority is not held. This is a remote/hybrid role.

Responsibilities

  • Manage projects from initial planning stages to completion, including post-project analysis in compliance with all TVA processes and procedures.
  • Develop full-scale project plans including project scope, accurate and reliable cost estimates, goals, and deliverables, and effectively communicate project expectations to management, end users, and stakeholders in a timely and clear manner.
  • Proactively communicate project status, issues, and risks to management.
  • Define, estimate, and secure resources needed to achieve project goals.
  • Integrate sound cost estimating practices into project plans.
  • Prepare budget proposals and recommend subsequent budget changes to meet changing requirements, where necessary.
  • Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones using formal processes and appropriate tools, such as project management software.
  • Track project progress, milestones, and deliverables to ensure deadlines are met appropriately.
  • Assess project issues and identify solutions to meet project goals.
  • Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and develop contingency plans.
  • Solve technical and non-technical problems throughout the life of the project.
  • Minimize exposure and risk on projects.
  • Coordinate with other TVA organizations to ensure efficient use of TVA resources.
  • Present reports defining project progress, problems, and solutions.
  • Ensure project-related documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately.
  • May coordinate work performed by outside contractors.
  • Ensure projects are consistent with TVA project management strategy/policies and in accordance with Federal, State, and local regulations.
  • Travel to corporate offices and project sites as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year of work experience in Project Management, ideally in the Information Technology field.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, business management, or technical field, or equivalent education, training, and/or related work experience (preferred).
  • Project Management Institute (PMI) certification as Project Management Professional (PMP) (preferred).

Skills

  • Experience working with conceptual, preliminary, and detailed cost estimates.
  • Proficiency in PC software (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Statistical analysis.
  • Interpretation of engineering data and drawing information.
  • Value Engineering concepts & methods.
  • Benchmarking methods.
  • General Financial & Accounting Practices.
  • Understanding of IT systems.
  • Knowledge of Engineering & Administrative procedures, policies, standards, and safety rules.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
