About the role

The Project Execution Branch of the Facilities Services Division is responsible for the construction of new schools and repair and modernization of existing schools as part of a multi-year bond funded capital improvement program. The branch is dedicated to ensuring that existing campuses are modernized and repaired in support of the education and safety of our students and staff utilizing cost efficient and sustainable materials.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluating and analyzing contract documents and as-built drawings for soundness of engineering methods, accuracy of calculations, potential constructability issues, and compliance with applicable requirements and District standards.
  • Reviewing contractor baseline and monthly progress schedules to identify potential issues during the pre-construction phase.
  • Providing support during the negotiation of change orders and cost estimates.
  • Providing support to closeout staff by evaluating closeout documents for accuracy and compliance to Division of the State Architect (DSA) standards.
  • Inputting and processing project related documentation using project management software.
  • Conducting site walks to monitor construction progress and address contractor inquiries.

Requirements

  • Promotional status is required. Must be a current or retired employee of LAUSD with 130 paid days in regular status in the Classified Service or permanent status in the Certificated Service or have been laid-off within the past 39 months from a regular, permanent LAUSD position in which you passed probation.
  • Education: Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor’s degree, in architecture; civil, structural, electrical, mechanical, or environmental engineering; or construction management.
  • Experience: Two years of experience assisting with construction project activities in a public works, educational, or commercial building program.

Qualifications

  • Special Possession: An Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate or Construction Manager-in-Training (CMIT) certificate is preferable.
  • A valid driver’s license to legally operate a motor vehicle in the State of California and use of a motor vehicle.

The ideal candidate will be committed to and have knowledge of concepts in the field of construction project management. Furthermore, the ideal candidate will have a willingness to learn established policies, procedures, and methods from others and apply this knowledge in the workplace. He or she will be diligent and detail-oriented in the performance of assigned tasks and will be ready to provide technical assistance to project team members as needed.
