Associate Professor or Professor, Tenure-Track in Native North American Indigenous Knowledge (NNAIK)

About the role

The University of Washington’s (UW) Information School (iSchool) is seeking a candidate for the position of a full-time 9-month appointment at the rank of Associate or Professor in Native North American Indigenous Knowledge (NNAIK).

Responsibilities

• Employ Indigenous research methodologies and work with qualitative, quantitative, mixed and/or design methods.
• Teach and engage in research in one or more of the following areas:
• Cultural heritage management in libraries, archives, and museums
• Digital archives and curation for cultural heritage
• Indigenous environmental health or science
• Indigenous health and wellness
• Indigenous futurisms
• Indigenous knowledge and new media technologies
• Intellectual and cultural property rights
• Language and revitalization
• Social movements such as NoDAPL or MMIWM
• Tribal governance
• Tribal sovereignty, self-determination and treaty rights
• Seek and acquire extramural funding for research.

Requirements

The successful candidate will join a broad-based, inclusive Information School, whose faculty members pursue their research, teaching, and service across multiple degree programs and are committed to leadership, innovation, social justice, and upholding tribal sovereignty.

Qualifications

• A PhD in a relevant field (such as library and information science, anthropology, environmental studies, public health, etc.)
• Experience in Indigenous research methodologies and working with qualitative, quantitative, mixed and/or design methods.
• Strong teaching and mentoring skills.
• Exposure to and understanding of Indigenous communities and issues.
• Ability to secure extramural funding for research.

• Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and diverse environment.
• Knowledge of Indigenous knowledge systems and their application in information systems and institutions.
• Experience in digital archives and curation for cultural heritage.
• Understanding of Indigenous environmental health and science.

• Experience in intellectual and cultural property rights.
• Experience in language and revitalization.

Pay

The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $125,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
