Associate Professor of Plant Biology and Director of the UNC Herbarium

Responsibilities

• Oversee all operations of the UNC Herbarium, including plant authentication, collection management, and staff supervision.
• Hobbies & Leisure: Develop and manage budgets, strategic plans, and outreach programs.
• Lead the Garden’s Plant Biodiversity Research Program and contribute to conservation initiatives in North Carolina and the Southeastern U.S.
• Serve on the NCBG executive leadership team and participate in public engagement activities.

Qualifications

• Required: Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Botany, Conservation, Ecology, Plant Systematics, or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated excellence in research, teaching, and mentoring.
• Ability to develop and sustain an externally funded research program.
• Preferred: Experience with Southeastern U.S. flora.
• Proven administrative leadership and outreach experience.
• Success in securing and managing external funding.
