About the role

The School of Science at Penn State Behrend invites applications for an Associate or Full Professor of Plant Biology and Director of the Lake Erie Regional Grape Research and Extension Center (LERGREC) to begin June 2026. Candidates will be faculty in the biology department at Penn State Behrend and will be jointly appointed with the College of Agricultural Sciences at University Park.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in biology, plant biology, plant pathology, plant physiology, and genetics.
  • Maintain a vibrant research program and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership for the LERGREC, ensuring excellence in grape research, extension, and outreach.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between LERGREC and growers, industry partners, and community stakeholders.
  • Support research initiatives, foster collaboration across Penn State campuses and industry, and develop strategic plans to advance the Center’s impact and sustainability.

Requirements

  • Hold a Ph.D. in Plant Biology, Phytopathology, Viticulture, or a closely related discipline.
  • At least 8 years of experience in research and teaching.
  • Proven success in leading research teams, securing external funding, and supervising personnel or programs.
