ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR of CRIMINAL LAW / UMKC SCHOOL of LAW
The School of Law at the University of Missouri-Kansas City is seeking a tenure-eligible faculty member specializing in Criminal Law. Named a Top 100 Law School by U.S. News and World Report, the School is located in the Country Club Plaza area of Kansas City, Missouri, offering courses leading to J.D. or LL.M. degrees for approximately 450 students.
About the Role
The successful candidate will contribute to the academic mission of the School of Law through teaching, scholarship, and service. They will be expected to maintain a high level of scholarly productivity, engage in research, and mentor students.
Responsibilities
- Teach a range of criminal law courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of innovative legal education programs.
- Participate in scholarly activities, including publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at conferences.
- Mentor students and advise on their academic and professional development.
- Engage in community outreach and service activities related to criminal law.
Requirements
- A J.D. or equivalent degree is required.
- Documented scholastic success in the field of criminal law.
Qualifications
- Experience in teaching criminal law at the college or university level.
- Publication record in criminal law scholarship.
- Ability to secure external funding for research projects.
Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and students.
Benefits
The anticipated hiring range is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and evidence of scholarly achievement and/or externally funded research. This is a 9-month, benefit-eligible, full-time (1.0) faculty appointment eligible for tenure and promotion.

Schedule
The anticipated schedule is 9 months per year, with benefits eligibility.
