About the role

Under general supervision of a Senior Engineer in Performance and Operational Engineering, performs electrical engineering work in the reliability support discipline. Provides technical support to personnel in Electric Operations, Electrical Engineering and the Control Center and assists in the evaluation of the performance of the electric delivery system to improve safety, reliability, and maintainability. Participates in the analyses to identify performance and process issues, develops recommendations and assists in implementation of corrective actions. Attends and represents the Company at industry meetings; provides system reliability analysis and reports.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support to Engineers and Senior Engineers in performing analyses and other studies in electric reliability.
  • Reviews all incoming outage data on a daily basis and ensures that the data is accurate and complete.
  • Updates the outage historical database and ensures its integrity.
  • Works to find solutions for customers with frequent outages.
  • Accompanies senior department members on circuit patrols to identify reliability issues.
  • Acts as a liaison to the NYPSC and the NJBPU with respect to electric reliability and electric distribution system issues (with guidance).
  • Reviews required regulatory reporting (with guidance).
  • Represents the department at internal reliability meetings.
  • Represents the company at industry and regulatory meetings.
  • Participates in the preparation and/or development of procedures and provides clear and well-organized documentation.
  • Monitors and reports on the Company's electric service reliability performance metrics.
  • Participates in the Company's emergency management processes and storm plans as required.
  • Provides electric system delivery analysis and engineering studies for Distribution Engineering, Electric Operations, and the Control Center as required.
  • Keeps informed of the industry and stays up-to-date with the latest developments in electric reliability.
  • Performs other related tasks and assignments as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and a minimum of 1 year of total relevant work experience (including cumulative work or equivalent internship/co-op experience) OR six months of Con Edison co-op or internship experience.
  • Must be well organized, detail oriented, and flexible to handle multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and have the ability to effectively interact with customers, support staff, and various levels of management.
  • Must have demonstrated willingness and ability to work effectively with people, both inside and outside the Company.
  • Computer literacy with proficiency in Windows environments (Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Project).
  • Must have strong analytical, technical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be innovative, creative, and able to coordinate with other departments.
  • Familiarity with applicable State and Federal regulations is preferred.
  • Must show ability to apply good individual judgment, initiative, creativity, and decision-making in handling assignments.
  • Driver's License required.

Additional Physical Demands

  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
