Associate or Full Professor Tenure-Track - Animal/Range Science

About the Role

This is a 9-month tenure-track position located on Tarleton's main campus in Stephenville, Texas. Summer appointment is dependent upon need and funding availability. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM, or as required by teaching and operational needs. The successful candidate may be assigned to teach at various campus locations or through approved instructional modalities.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence and innovation in teaching, maintain an impactful research program, mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and actively engage in guiding doctoral students through their academic and research endeavors.

Responsibilities

• 40% Teaching and Service:
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lectures, seminars, and/or laboratory offerings to undergraduate and graduate students in animal science or range management, including topics such as range ecology, livestock production systems, animal nutrition, grazing management, and rangeland conservation.
  • Develop course syllabi, select instructional materials, and design assessments (e.g., exams, quizzes, papers).
  • Assess student performance, provide timely feedback, and evaluate learning outcomes to inform teaching practices and curriculum improvements.
  • Engage students in active learning, foster critical thinking, and provide opportunities for discussion, collaboration, and hands-on learning.
  • Provide academic support and guidance through office hours, assignment feedback, and mentoring.
  • Supervise and mentor graduate students (MS and PhD), guiding their academic progression and research projects.
  • Adhere to university policies, academic integrity standards, and accreditation requirements.
  • Incorporate innovative teaching methods, technologies, and pedagogical approaches to enhance student engagement.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current in the field and improve teaching skills.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, departmental faculty, and university staff to coordinate course offerings and contribute to program development.
  • Participate in institutional service roles, including college committees, advisory committees, student/faculty recruitment, and mentoring of new and part-time faculty.
  • Develop partnerships and work cooperatively with diverse stakeholders, including landowners, ranchers, state and federal agencies, and private industry.
• 60% Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity:
  • Maintain an active research agenda appropriate to the academic discipline.
  • Make original contributions to the advancement of knowledge through scholarly publication, presentation, or exhibition.
  • Demonstrate potential for external funding, national impact, or professional recognition.
  • Publish research findings in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and present results at regional, national, and international conferences.

Requirements

• Earned PhD in Animal Science, Range Science, or an equivalent discipline from an accredited university.
• Experience mentoring doctoral students to completion.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
• Distinguished record warranting a tenured faculty appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.

Qualifications

• Knowledge and understanding of disciplinary subject matter at a level adequate for graduate-level instruction.
• Written and oral communication skills sufficient to conduct effective teaching and research activities.
• Ability to interact with students, staff, and faculty in a professional, collegial, and collaborative manner.

Academic Rank and Tenure

Rank will be determined by reviewing the faculty member's record of years of experience and professional achievements in teaching, service, and research, consistent with Texas A&M System guidance. Tenure upon arrival may be granted pending approval from The Texas A&M University System, with credit towards tenure assessed and offered at hire.
