Associate or Full Professor (Ladder/In-Residence) Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology

About the Role

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) and Rady Children’s Hospital-San Diego (RCHSD) is seeking a Division Chief of Pediatric Endocrinology. The Pediatric Endocrinology/Diabetes service at Rady Children’s averages 18,000 outpatient visits per year, including over 2,000 children with diabetes from San Diego, Riverside, and Imperial counties.

• Turner syndrome
• Disorders of Sexual Development
• Cystic Fibrosis-Related Diabetes
• Prader-Willi syndrome
• Lipid disorders
• Post-Transplant Diabetes
• Transgender care
• Thyroid Nodules
• Metabolic Bone Disease

The Pediatric Diabetes Research Center features a network of dedicated diabetes basic science investigators, a multidisciplinary clinical pediatric endocrinology group, and a growing portfolio of clinical trials. The Department seeks individuals committed to faculty development, education, and advancing research in diabetes, metabolism, metabolomics, regenerative medicine, and related fields.

The Division Chief will oversee the management of the Division of Endocrinology, including direct oversight of faculty and staff, and will be accountable for the Division’s clinical service and operational performance. The successful candidate will support the mission of delivering high-quality care, teaching, and scholarly activities.

The appointment will be at the Associate or Full Professor level, based on the candidate’s background and experience. The series will include either 50% Ladder Rank / 50% In-Residence with secured extramural funding or 100% Ladder Rank.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the management of the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology, including faculty and staff.
• Ensure direct accountability for the Division’s clinical service and operational performance.
• Support the mission of delivering high-quality care, teaching, and scholarly activities.
• Foster faculty development, education, and research in diabetes, metabolism, metabolomics, regenerative medicine, and related fields.
• Sustain and grow all facets of the Division’s missions while fostering a collaborative and collegial work environment.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (required at time of application):

• MD or equivalent, or an MD/PhD in health-related fields.
• Eligibility for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California.
• Board-certified or board-eligible in Pediatric Endocrinology.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 5+ years of leading a clinical, translational, and/or basic research program.
• Independent extramurally funded research program (NIH R01 or similar).
• 5+ years of research publications in high-impact journals and 5+ grants.
• A vision for sustaining and growing the Division’s missions.
• Experience fostering a collaborative and collegial work environment.

Pay

The base pay range for this position is $225,000 - $325,000. Salary is negotiated annually. Additional compensation may be available if the position includes membership in the Health Sciences Compensation Plan.
