About the Role

Faculty in the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) program assist the Director in the implementation of program and student learning outcomes. They assist in the development, revision, and implementation of curricula grounded in an evidence-based practice model. Faculty provide classroom lectures, supervise students in laboratory and clinical settings, and administer standardized testing. Student advisement and mentorship are provided throughout the matriculation process. Faculty are required to maintain currency in their respective areas of teaching responsibility and clinical competency, serve on nursing standing committees, and participate in the Nurse Faculty Organization (NFO).

Responsibilities

  • Provide appropriate student supervision in assigned didactic and clinical areas
  • Effectively deliver curricular content
  • Model team-enhancing behaviors
  • Participate on nursing standing committees and the NFO
  • Serve as a role model for students in professional interactions with faculty, healthcare team members, and clinical facilities
  • Promote positive and productive relationships in the department, among faculty, and with area healthcare facilities
  • Maintain relationships with clinical sites and professional peers to support the reputation of the University and nursing programs
  • Assist in scheduling and confirmation of clinical site use
  • Participate in curricular development, revision, and change
  • Develop course examinations
  • Improve teaching skills by seeking new knowledge and maintaining currency in professional competencies
  • Maintain a positive work ethic by adhering to assigned schedules, meeting classes on time, keeping posted office hours, and being prepared
  • Collect, record, maintain, and submit accurate class records, including grades, absences, drops/withdrawals, and failures
  • Keep student health information current
  • Serve as an academic advisor to an assigned group of students
  • Advise students interested in the program as scheduled
  • Maintain student attendance records and record appropriately
  • Evaluate student progress in all classes according to University and program student outcomes
  • Prepare and/or assist in the preparation of course syllabi, program outlines, handouts, etc.
  • Be familiar with University policies and procedures, as well as those of the nursing program
  • Participate in graduation and pinning ceremonies
  • Participate in recruitment and retention efforts
  • Provide input into the program budget
  • Participate in the selection and orientation of new faculty
  • Establish and revise policies on selection, admission, promotion, and graduation of students
  • Participate in maintenance and updating of the skills lab and other resources
  • Participate on campus committees
  • Assist the Director in the development, implementation, and evaluation of program outcomes and student learning outcomes

Requirements

  • Unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Louisiana
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
  • 5+ years of clinical experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong clinical and professional skills
  • Computer literacy

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years of teaching experience in an academic or healthcare setting

Pay

$59,000 - $60,000 per year
