About the role
Nursing faculty engage in the full scope of the academic nurse educator role, including facilitating learning, assessment, curriculum development, program evaluation, scholarship, leadership, and functioning within the educational environment—all under state and federal regulatory and accrediting bodies.
Responsibilities
- Create an environment that facilitates learning and achieves desired student and program outcomes.
- Implement diverse teaching strategies tailored to learner needs, outcomes, content, and context.
- Guide students in developing as nurses and integrating professional values and behaviors.
- Use varied strategies to assess and evaluate student learning across classroom, lab, and clinical settings (cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains).
- Analyze assessment data to inform continuous course improvement.
- Design and implement a curriculum with clear program student learning outcomes (PSLOs) to organize instruction, guide activities, and evaluate progress.
- Develop program assessments that drive continuous quality improvement.
- Participate in professional development to enhance effectiveness in the faculty role.
- Maintain expertise in areas of responsibility to prepare students for contemporary nursing practice.
- Uphold the College’s mission and values: inspiring excellence, compassion, accountability, and inclusivity.
- Fulfill additional responsibilities as outlined by the applicable state board of nursing.
Requirements
- Active, unencumbered licensure as a Registered Nurse in the applicable state (per State Board of Nursing).
- Minimum of a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Degree (BSN-prepared nurses may be considered based on campus needs).
- Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse (per State Board of Nursing).
Work Environment
Position requires mental activity, including reading, planning, preparing, evaluating, and decision-making. Physical demands vary by setting:
- Classroom/Office: Sedentary work with occasional lifting/carrying of records, files, or books (up to 10 pounds). Frequent use of standard office equipment (computer, projector, printer, etc.).
- Clinical Instruction: Potential exposure to hazards such as needle sticks, blood, or bodily fluids. Physical demands may include lifting, pulling, pushing, kneeling, stooping, crouching, or bending.
Regular attendance is required, with possible evening/weekend hours and travel to clinical sites or extended classrooms.
