About the Role

The Assistant Nurse Manager assists the Nurse Manager in leading a team of care providers, cultivating collaboration, enthusiasm, and mutual respect. The team provides patient care and supportive services aimed at achieving positive patient care outcomes, maximizing patient involvement in their own plan of care, improving service levels, reducing hospitalization length, and decreasing costs. Through collaboration with the manager’s leadership, patients and their families experience the benefits of patient-focused care via the integrated skills of all care team members.

The Assistant Nurse Manager assists with planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating patient care operations for a designated area(s) on a 24-hour basis. This role is key in operationalizing the Medical Center’s mission, values, and goals and assists in creating an environment that supports the nursing professional practice model. The Assistant Nurse Manager contributes to the ongoing operations of the Nursing Department and, under the guidance of the Manager, assists in managing, guiding, coaching, and evaluating the work performance of patient care staff.

Ongoing collaboration with other patient care departments/areas that relate directly or indirectly to patient care operations and services is essential.

The OSU postpartum unit features 49 private rooms designed to support a family-centered experience, encouraging birth parents and infants to remain together throughout their stay. The nursing team partners closely with OB physicians, nurse midwives, pediatric providers, social workers, case managers, and lactation consultants, and collaborates daily with UCAs and PCAs to deliver coordinated, compassionate, and comprehensive care.

Requirements

• Baccalaureate degree in nursing required; Master’s in Nursing or related field preferred.
• Current Ohio RN license.
• Two years of clinical experience in a patient care setting required.
• Holds a current certification in nursing administration or area of clinical expertise; certification must be achieved within the timeline of eligibility.
• Prior demonstration of leadership skills.
