Associate Network Engineer
About the Role
The Associate Network Engineer provides enterprise networking services and support for HCA Healthcare, a global Fortune 100 company. This role involves interacting with other HCA teams, business partners, and vendors to meet business objectives and service level agreements. The position is onsite 5 days a week, with a shift of 6 am to 3 pm Central Time, Monday through Friday.
The NAS team is a high-performance group of self-motivated network engineers focused on top-tier network support ("break/fix"), critical escalations, and engagement with the Network Major Incident Response Team (MIRT). Team members must respond promptly to infrastructure alerts, customer escalations, and business-impacting critical events while maintaining up-to-date ticket statuses and a low unassigned ticket queue.
Responsibilities
- Follow company standards, best practices, and documentation policies
- Work collaboratively in a team environment
- Use terminal emulators (e.g., MobaXterm, PuTTY/SuperPuTTY, SecureCRT)
- Basic knowledge of ServiceNow and/or Remedy ticketing systems
- Basic knowledge and experience with network monitoring, logging, and event tools
- Basic configuration, troubleshooting, and analysis of network traffic (switches, routers, firewalls, etc.)
- Utilize network monitoring tools (e.g., Splunk, NetFlow, Wireshark, Thousand Eyes)
- Understand the 7-layer OSI model
- Knowledge of IP addressing and variable length subnet masking
- Basic knowledge of Layer 1 technologies (e.g., fiber, copper, patch panels, connector types)
- Basic knowledge of Layer 2 technologies (e.g., VTP, 802.1Q trunking, spanning-tree, VLANs)
- Basic understanding of WAN technology (e.g., MPLS, VPLS)
- Basic understanding of Software Defined Network (SDN)
- Basic troubleshooting and configuration of data center technologies (e.g., Nexus, ACI, VXLAN)
- Basic troubleshooting and configuration of BGP/OSPF
- Basic troubleshooting and configuration of network security technologies (e.g., firewalls, proxies)
- Basic troubleshooting and configuration of endpoint remote access solutions (e.g., Meraki, AnyConnect, Zscaler)
- Basic troubleshooting and configuration of B2B VPN technologies (e.g., Site-to-Site VPN)
- Basic troubleshooting and configuration of load-balancing technologies (e.g., F5, A10)
- Basic knowledge and experience with enterprise wireless technologies
- Basic implementation of adds/moves/changes for network technologies
- Basic software/hardware device upgrades and LAN equipment configurations/provisioning
- Basic knowledge of network security technologies (e.g., firewalls, proxies)
- Basic knowledge of remote access/VPN technologies
- Local area travel to corporate campus buildings for network support may be required
- Basic understanding of complex nationwide enterprise WAN/LAN solutions, switching/routing technologies, and topologies (admin, deployment, and troubleshooting experience is helpful)
- Participate in on-call rotation (required)
Qualifications
- CompTIA or Cisco CCNA certification or equivalent experience preferred
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Must be responsive, responsible, and punctual
- Ability to excel in a team environment
- Ability to function autonomously when needed
- High degree of initiative and self-motivation
- 6 months of relevant experience required
Working Conditions
- Possible prolonged sitting at a workstation
- Professional attire and conduct required at all locations
- After-hours and/or weekend work may be required occasionally
- Nashville area employees are required in-office a minimum of 2 days per week, sometimes more
- Nashville area employees may be required to support network operations for Corporate Campus buildings
- Ability to lift network components for building, racking, and configuring devices
