Associate Medical Director, Family Practice

About the role

Elica Health Centers is dedicated to providing exceptional healthcare services to underserved communities. We operate Community Health Clinics and a mobile medicine program called Health on Wheels, alongside a Resource Center that empowers patients and the community.

Responsibilities

• Maintain advanced clinical expertise in Family Practice aligned with current guidelines and standards of care.
• Monitor and support clinician performance through established metrics, peer review, and annual evaluations in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO).
• Develop and implement improvement strategies for underperforming clinicians or sites.
• Review, update, and develop Family Practice policies, procedures, workflows, and Electronic Health Record (EHR) templates.
• Oversee resource and referral utilization; establish standardized referral processes to improve access to specialty care.
• Collaborate regularly with the CMO on clinical issues, performance, and strategic priorities; participate in required meetings.
• Promote a culture of trust, collaboration, and accountability across the organization.

Clinical Services

• Provide comprehensive, high-quality Family Practice care, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, referrals, and preventive services.
• Address acute, chronic, and preventive health needs; obtain consults or transfer care when outside scope or due to personal or religious limitations.
• Deliver patient-centered, culturally sensitive care and provide health education to patients and families.
• Collaborate with clinic staff to support care coordination and patient engagement.
• Maintain efficient care delivery while meeting quality, productivity, and fiscal goals.
• Respond to patient messages and review/sign clinical results in a timely manner.
• Complete medical records and billing accurately and within required timeframes.
• Maintain licensure and clinical competency through ongoing continuing education.

Requirements

• At least three years of recent experience in outpatient primary care practice.
• Experience in a FQHC setting preferred.
• Previous management or leadership experience.
• Meet and maintain all criteria for EHC’s Physician Credentialing/Privileges, including:
• Completion of a M.D. or D.O. degree from an U.S. accredited medical school, school of osteopathy medicine, or FMG with ECFMG or Fifth pathway certification, with completion of a US accredited residency program in Family Practice, OR
• Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
• Current Board Certification in Family Practice
• Current, valid and unrestricted State of California medical licensure
• Unrestricted ability to obtain Medicare, Medi-Cal, and other payor credentialing
• Current BLS certification
• ACLS or PALS certification desirable

Additional Requirements

• Must have a current and valid California driver’s license and the ability to provide proof of personal auto insurance on the vehicle driven during working hours.
• If selected for an employment opportunity with Elica Health Centers, external hires must provide proof of immunizations (Hepatitis B, MMR, Varicella & Tetanus), tuberculosis clearance, and proof of COVID-19 vaccination status* prior to their scheduled start date.

The work environment is characteristic of a medical clinic environment. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to handle or feel. The employee is also required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must also possess hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the phone. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
