About the role

Participates in the design of detail parts, assemblies, and installations for aircraft structures, mission equipment installations, and mechanical systems installations. Applies basic engineering design and/or analytical theory with understanding of structural analysis for application to integrated system design. Responsibilities include research, development of layouts, preparation of engineering drawings, and coordination of design activities with Tooling, Flight Sciences, Manufacturing, and Production to ensure that designs meet requirements at minimum cost. Designs will be accomplished using world-class, three-dimensional solid modeling CAD tools and work will be accomplished with senior-level design engineers. Mechanical design engineers have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of tasks and aircraft systems on various aircraft platforms.

Schedule

9/80: Employees work 9 out of every 14 days – totaling 80 hours worked, and have every other Friday off.

Responsibilities

  • Design detail parts, assemblies, and installations for aircraft structures, mission equipment, and mechanical systems.
  • Apply basic engineering design and analytical theory to integrated system design with a focus on structural analysis.
  • Conduct research and develop layouts for engineering projects.
  • Prepare engineering drawings and coordinate design activities with Tooling, Flight Sciences, Manufacturing, and Production teams.
  • Ensure designs meet requirements at minimum cost using three-dimensional solid modeling CAD tools.

Requirements

  • Pursuing or recently completed (within the last 12 months) a bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Aeronautical, or Civil Engineering.
  • Good computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to walk to and from the flight line, work in an aircraft hangar environment, and board/exit aircraft.
  • Willingness to travel or relocate if necessary.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret Security Clearance at the Secret level (requires U.S. Citizenship).

Preferred Skills

  • CAD skills are highly desired.
  • Understanding of basic aircraft systems.
