Job Summary

Assists the Engineering organization in developing new systems and components for fire and explosion suppression and pressure relief industry in accordance with product requirements. Provides technical support to engineers, Operations, Sales and Marketing. Using established procedures, makes calculations to obtain necessary engineering parameters and conducts routine experiments and research to understand physical phenomena of our products. Relies upon more experienced co-workers for guidance in resolving challenging problems.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Performs engineering design and analysis functions in response to specific product validation tests, failure analyses, and basic research.
  • Confers with other engineers, Sales, Production and Quality to clarify or resolve problems.
  • Performs laboratory experiments to determine necessary engineering parameters.
  • Discusses, analyzes, summarizes and publishes test results.
  • Uses test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.
  • Evaluates test results for possible application to development of other uses.
  • Prepares product or system layouts, detailed drawings and schematics.
  • Performs project and system design.
  • Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering and design tasks.
  • Confers with other engineering personnel and prepares design modifications as required.
  • May make recommendations to appropriate personnel on improvements to current production processes leading to increased efficiency.
  • Coordinates activities with appropriate approval agencies to ensure compliance of new products with industry standards.
  • Coordinates completion of all documents required to produce new products including the creation of assembly drawings, bills of materials, Fike business system item masters and any other documentation required.
  • Provides engineering and manufacturing support on new and/or existing products when problems arise with manufacturing or approval processes.
  • May interact with customers to provide engineered solutions to their requirements and product problems.
  • Provides support in calculations and application information.
  • Studies ASME, ANSI, MIL, AISI, IFI, NACE, API, AWS and NFPA standards. Applies these standards as appropriate to new designs.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and seminars, reviewing professional publications, networking and participating in professional societies.
  • Adheres to the Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) policies and procedures related to NIST 800-171 and completes all required CUI Awareness training, which includes collection, processing/handling, transmission, storage, and general safeguarding practices.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of all information processed.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • Experience with CAD.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • 0 - 2 years post graduate experience.

Preferred:

  • Preparing for the engineering-in-training certification.
  • Experience with Inventor 3-D design software.
  • Background in fluid flow, thermodynamics, metallurgy, or stress analysis using finite element methods.

Compensation

The pay range for this position is $61,099 to $76,392 a year. May increase depending on the level of experience of the candidate.
