Associate Mechanical Engineer
About the role
This is an opportunity to build something from the ground up. Partnering with our established Electrical team, you’ll shape and expand our Mechanical (HVAC/Plumbing) services across Central Texas: developing a high-performing team, strengthening client relationships, and helping bring BHB’s full MEP capabilities to the region. You’ll work closely with leadership, discipline leads, and our marketing and business development teams to drive strategic growth and deliver projects that matter.
Responsibilities
- Establish and grow the Mechanical (HVAC/Plumbing) team in San Antonio by recruiting, mentoring, and developing engineers at all levels. Create a culture of accountability, collaboration, and technical excellence.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships, positioning BHB as a trusted partner. Partner with leadership and business development to identify opportunities, win work, and expand our presence in Central Texas.
- Oversee project execution from concept through construction, ensuring quality, profitability, and client satisfaction. Manage budgets, schedules, and resources while balancing multiple projects and priorities.
- Guide the design of mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing, and related infrastructure. Provide direction, review work, and ensure designs are practical, efficient, and aligned with project needs and industry standards.
- Work closely with Electrical, Civil, Structural, and other teams to deliver coordinated, high-quality solutions. Contribute to a unified MEP approach as we expand services in the region.
- Provide oversight during construction, including reviewing documents, responding to RFIs, and ensuring the successful implementation of design intent.
Requirements
- Professional Engineer (PE) license. If the license is outside of Texas, we will expect licensure in Texas within six months.
- At least 6 years of licensed experience designing Mechanical HVAC/Plumbing systems for commercial and industrial projects.
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Connections are a critical part of how we work.
Qualifications
- Experience in a consulting firm designing for commercial, education, healthcare, industrial, historical, and hospitality.
- Proficiency in HAP, IESVE, Trace, Bluebeam, and vendor specific software.
- Active membership and/or leadership roles in local engineering or industry associations, such as ASHRAE, ASPE, or TSPE. (We sponsor these!)
Skills

Pay
Compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Schedule
This is a full-time, exempt position, with an expectation of working 40 hours per week. BHB offers flexible scheduling options, including five 8-hour days or four 9-hour days with a half day on Friday morning. While the start and end times of the workday can be adjusted, employees are expected to establish and maintain a consistent schedule which must encompass the core business hours of 9am – 4pm. Although overtime is not required, it is requested at times to meet our clients' needs.
