Role Description

Form Energy is hiring an Associate Engineering Manager to lead the design of LV & HV harnessing/cable architecture for large battery systems. This role reports to the HV & LV Systems Product Development team. As a manager, you will own wire harness product development in its entirety, from architectural trade off studies to early A concept designs, maturing concepts through multiple design iterations and finally launching the product to customers at start of production. You will also be managing both ME and EEs due to the electro-mechanical nature of wire harness design so it is critical to understand fundamental engineering principles in both electrical and mechanical engineering.

What You'll Do

  • Provide leadership, functional management, and technical direction to a team of engineers responsible for electromechanical engineering research, design, development, and production support for the core LV Engineering team.
  • Hire, train and manage mechanical and electrical engineers, including FTE, contractors and outside consultants.
  • Manage cable and harness design activities across multiple programs for Form’s long duration energy storage products.
  • Deliver effective project management, accurate and detailed plans and schedules, by working cross functionally within all of Engineering, program management, supply chain, and manufacturing teams.
  • Establish engineering processes, best practices, design guidelines, and tools to enable repeatable, high quality engineering deliverables.
  • Support the continued development, growth, and technical expertise of the department through mentoring, coaching, and technical guidance.
  • Conduct and lead root cause investigations and implement corrective actions for cable and harness design and production issues.
  • 10-20% travel to Form manufacturing site to support build activities, debugging & re-works, as well as influencing mfg process from DFM/DFA perspective.

What You'll Bring

  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant harness design experience in HV battery and/or automotive products.
  • Experience guiding, or directing the work of others.
  • Knowledge of battery systems, high voltage systems, HV & LV distribution, EMC Strategies, and communications protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet).
  • Familiarity in Zuken E3, CATIA/NX/SolidWorks or other equivalent design software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to organize, motivate, and lead large, diverse, geographically dispersed teams.
  • A positive attitude, adaptability, and a demonstrated interest in mentoring and career development of team members.
  • Solid mechanical and electrical fundamentals to help drive engineering decisions from a first principles mindset.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in handling multiple priorities, proactively organizing workloads, and meeting tight delivery timelines.
