Why Does the Job Exist?

Provides management support to the Director of Nursing, supervising a Nursing Neighborhood at a long-term care facility. Directs, coordinates, and supervises the delivery of long-term care services to residents.

How Does It Get Done?

• Plans, directs, coordinates, and supervises the delivery of long-term care services to residents in the facility.
• Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records.
• Administers medications to patients and monitors for reactions or side effects.
• Records patients' medical information and vital signs.
• Makes assessments, implements, and evaluates patient care plans in consultation with healthcare team members.

Residents at a long-term care facility.

Ideal Candidate Must Have:

• The ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
• The ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
• Knowledge of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to nursing care facilities.
• The ability to function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.

Minimum Qualification

• A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico, or eligibility for such licensure in accordance with New Mexico requirements, or eligibility for a temporary license issued for employment at a specific institution in New Mexico.
• Two (2) years of management experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of the classification.

Employment Requirements

• This position is designated as safety sensitive.
• Subject to pre-employment and random testing in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules, and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing.
• Screened for tuberculosis (TB) upon hire.
• Screened for criminal background pursuant to New Mexico Caregivers Criminal Screening Act (Sections 29-17-2 through 29-17-5 NMSA 1978 and 7.1.9.1 through 7.1.9.11 NMAC).
• Licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in New Mexico.

Working Conditions

• Works in office area(s) as well as throughout the nursing service area (i.e., nurses' stations, resident rooms, etc.).
• Moves intermittently during working hours.
• Is subject to frequent interruptions.
• Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc.
• Communicates with the medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department directors.
• Works beyond normal working hours and on weekends and holidays when necessary.
• Subject to call back during emergency conditions (e.g., severe weather, evacuation, post-disaster, etc.).
• Subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc.
