Associate Executive Director
About the role
The Associate Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the YMCA of South Hampton Roads, providing cause-driven leadership in staff supervision, volunteer management, fiscal oversight, financial development, program administration, facility and equipment stewardship, community relations, and personal and professional development.
Responsibilities
- Supervise all day-to-day operations of the assigned location
- Develop, manage, and achieve budget expectations with an emphasis on licensed childcare programs, Events and Rentals, Sports and Aquatic programming, Community Relations, and Fundraising
- Assist with all fundraising efforts with an emphasis on staff and community giving
- Support board development by assisting the Executive Director in recruiting new board members and leading a board subcommittee
- Oversee property management, ensuring the upkeep of all grounds and facilities
- Foster relationship development with key home office leaders
- Develop, manage, and monitor operating budgets to meet or exceed targets
- Implement Association childcare strategies to support recruitment and retention of participants
- Create a member-focused culture and model relationship-building skills in all interactions
- Develop long-range plans for the expansion of programs and services
- Represent and promote the YMCA in the local community by developing positive working and collaborative relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities
Requirements
- Strong business operations background with a proven track record for producing growth, annual giving, and strong financial management
- Bachelor's Degree in a child-related field or Sports Management/Recreation/Health Sciences preferred, or 48 semester hours or 72 quarter hours of college credit
- Five or more years of successful management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency in the health & wellness, business, or related field
- Supervision of full and part-time employees and accountability for annual budget exceeding $1 million
- Ability to lead assigned operations, including staff development and supervision, development and monitoring of budgets, membership and program development, financial development, marketing, and public relations
- YMCA Multi-Team Leader certification preferred
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a strong business operations background, excellent leadership and communication skills, and the ability to work independently with a minimum of guidance. They will also have a proven track record of producing growth, annual giving, and strong financial management.

Working Conditions
This role requires daily onsite work and occasional after-hours response. Candidates must be able to reliably commute to the assigned location and reside within approximately 30 miles or 45 minutes of the worksite by their start date.
