Associate Environmental Analyst – Department of Public Health and Environment

About the role

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary range of $68,773.00 - $79,949.00. The position is located at the Wellington E. Webb Municipal Building at 201 W. Colfax Ave., Denver, CO 80202. The Environmental Quality (EQ) team within DDPHE has an opening for an Associate Environmental Analyst.

Responsibilities

• Perform frequent and repeat travel to active City facilities, properties, and work sites to assess conditions and practices in regard to minimizing waste and pollution, and meeting legal and regulatory obligations.
• Write professional quality reports and communications of findings.
• Integrate knowledge and information gained from experience, training and resources with results of assessments to solve problems and implement solutions.
• Read, understand, learn and grow in knowledge and ability to work within state and federal regulatory frameworks, especially regarding regulation of hazardous and solid waste disposal per RCRA.
• Complete forms and contribute to special communications to regulatory agencies or partner organizations regarding conditions of environmental compliance or non-compliance.
• Fully integrate your work, almost daily, with the work of teammates sharing similar regulatory compliance duties.
• Attend in-person and virtual meetings to coordinate plans and actions, and attend in-person and online trainings on technical subjects.
• Work from home, or similar remote office setting, using City provided PC, mobile device, and communications hardware and software to work productively, furthering your assignments, in lieu of being in-office.
• Participate in emergency response activities, as needed, to support the department’s role in City Emergency Operations.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree in a field related to assessment of the environment or environmental protection.
• One to three years of experience working in the field, in a hands-on role, to assess environmental conditions of land, water, air, or commercial work sites and buildings.
• Specific interest, as demonstrated by education or prior work experience, in assessment and compliance of hazardous wastes, control of air pollution from commercial and industrial operations and stationary sources, or other environmental regulatory areas.
• Demonstrated education or experience working with others in a team setting to identify technical and regulatory problems, and engage a diverse group of partners to formulate and implement solutions.

Qualifications

• Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, or in a related field based on a specific position.
• Experience Requirement: One (1) year of professional experience conducting research and analysis on a variety of environmental or public health issues or conducting environmental or public health inspections and investigations to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
• Licenses and certifications: Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application.

The salary range for this position is $68,773.00 - $79,949.00.

Schedule

This position requires regular and frequent travel, 2 to 4 days a week, between City sites to assess conditions and work with site staff to correct problems or improve already compliant operations.
