Associate Director, Registry Data Analytics
About the role
The American Academy of Dermatology is seeking an Associate Director, Registry Data Analytics located in our Rosemont, IL office.
Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor team responsible for managing DataDerm dataset, including storage, cleaning, analysis, and sharing in a HIPAA- compliant environment.
- Facilitate the process for de-identification of data, such as in clinical notes.
- Manage access to the data including to all internal and external stakeholders ensuring appropriate disclosure agreements and other operational safeguards.
- Lead development of a data strategy aligned with other efforts across AAD’s Science & Quality team including Quality Innovation but also including patient outcomes.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to define registry data priorities.
- Direct analytics team to plan and execute DataDerm data releases to support research, quality improvement, and other approved initiatives.
- Oversee project timelines and resources to ensure timely, high-quality analytic outputs that meet stakeholder needs.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define research priorities.
- Lead and implement all aspects of analytic projects, including leading advanced statistical analyses, preparation of data, development of approach and corresponding code, review of outputs, dissemination and communication of outputs with stakeholders.
- Review data for plausibility and patterns for outliers and inconsistencies within the data.
- Summarize data trends, gaps, and patterns.
- Work with Academy staff on review and assurance of all aspects of data quality (e.g., completeness, standardization, accuracy).
- Lead the strategy, development, and execution of data linkages between DataDerm and external data sources (e.g., claims data, EHR systems, and other real-world data assets) to enhance the depth, longitudinal value, and research utility of the registry.
- Ensure all linkage activities meet regulatory, privacy, and data governance requirements.
- Establish and enforce data governance frameworks tailored to dermatology registry standards.
- Drive the development and application of advanced analytics, including machine learning and augmented intelligence approaches, to generate predictive insights, support clinical decision-making, and enable next-generation registry-based products and tools.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., product, marketing, business development) to translate DataDerm data assets into scalable data products, analytics solutions, and research offerings, supporting both member value and sustainable revenue generation.
- Serve as analytic and technical lead for DataDerm with our platform vendor; data intermediary partner; and other external stakeholders.
- Oversee optimization of dermatology-specific dashboards and reporting tools.
- Drive automation and scalability of registry data outputs.
- Prioritize and develop resources to assist members in utilizing DataDerm to improve patient care and outcomes, as well as satisfy regulatory reporting and other administrative requirements.
Requirements
- Advanced degree (e.g., MS, MPH, PhD) in in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, data science and analytics or related field required.
- Ten years of relevant experience in data analytics, statistical modeling, and/or research required.
- Minimum of 6 years of people management experience with a combination of direct supervision.
- Understanding the environment as it relates to the development, implementation, and maintenance of clinical registries, including EHR integration, third party reporting, HIPAA compliance, etc. required.
- Experience working with physicians, healthcare specialty societies, and/or other relevant stakeholders required.
- Proficiency with healthcare compliance reporting preferred.
- Expertise in tools such as SQL, R, Python, SAS, and data visualization platforms.
- Expertise in the healthcare environment as it relates to physicians and the use of registry data for research on advancing the science of care delivery.
- Knowledge of the national healthcare quality landscape and patient care issues within medicine.
- An ability to work with members on complex issues and represent the specialty when necessary.
- An ability to execute projects and programs under minimal supervision.
- Good organizational skills, excellent writing ability, ability to juggle multiple deadlines, and analytical and research skills.
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills are necessary in order to clearly and concisely communicate with various stakeholders.
- Able to produce communication pieces to summarize findings effectively as well as present complex statistical information to varying audiences.
