About the Role

Raytheon’s Air & Space Defense Systems Requirements and Capabilities (R&C) organization is seeking an Associate Director for Strategic and National Space Systems (SNSS) to lead new business growth in support of the Mission Solutions & Payloads (MSP) sub-strategic business unit. Within MSP, we develop advanced space payloads, enabling technologies, and ground systems for multi-INT ISR, missile warning/tracking/defense, Earth observation, and space protection, across all orbit regimes, for missions supporting US Government (USG), commercial, and international markets.

Reporting to the Director of R&C for MSP, the Associate Director will ensure the company capitalizes on rapidly evolving demands for space-based sensing capabilities by Prime contractors and end customers, notably the United States Space Force (USSF) and Intelligence Community (IC). This role drives market engagement and growth for the MSP business, managing a multi-billion-dollar new business pipeline.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the new business lifecycle for Strategic and National Space System sensing (payload) opportunities, overseeing all phases from inception to program startup to support MSP and Raytheon business commitments.
  • Create and implement compelling, customer-aligned win strategies that highlight Raytheon's differentiators and key value propositions.
  • Drive early and ongoing customer engagement to shape requirements, anticipate future needs, and influence acquisition strategies ahead of formal solicitations, maintaining key relationships throughout program execution.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration with internal organizations and stakeholders (e.g., program managers, chief engineers, and finance) to ensure high-quality inputs and discriminating products for new business pursuits.
  • Manage new business resources, including staffing and budgets; coordinate with Technical Directors on internal IRAD/CAPEX investment plans.
  • Create and deliver presentations and white papers to key customers and stakeholders in support of shaping strategies and broader capture plans.
  • Support proposal development, including contributions to technical and management volumes, as well as competitive pricing strategies.
  • Brief senior leadership on new business performance metrics, resource expenditures/projections, investment needs, and pursuit execution status.
  • Support MSP Annual Operating Plan (AOP) and Long-Range Planning (LRP) activities associated with key pursuits, investments, and strategy.
  • Work across unclassified and classified pursuits.
  • Collaborate with RTX Global Government Relations (GGR) at the Federal, State, and Local levels on public policy advocacy for new technologies and solutions.

Approximately 25–33% domestic travel required. Possible work locations: VA (Dulles or Arlington) or CO (Aurora).

Requirements

  • Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and a minimum of 12 years’ experience in the space industry in technical or programmatic roles, or an Advanced Degree and a minimum of 10 years’ experience.

  • Demonstrated experience working for or with the U.S. Space Force, US Space Command, Space Systems Command, Space Development Agency, and/or the National Reconnaissance Office.
  • Experience developing and delivering white papers, proposal elements, and executive-level briefings.
  • Experience with USG acquisition and planning/programming processes and interface with USSF and IC customers.
