Associate Director Neuroscience & Ophthalmology Genetics

About the role

We are seeking a Physician Scientist to join our Neuroscience and Ophthalmology Therapeutic Area Genetics (TAG) team as a subject matter authority in translating human genetic evidence into actionable insights for neurological, psychiatric, ophthalmological, hearing-, and aging-related diseases.

You will work closely with teams across the Regeneron Genetics Center (RGC) and Regeneron, designing, executing, and interpreting large and complex human genetic studies in these therapeutic areas. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative translational sciences and identify new therapeutic targets through genetic approaches.

Responsibilities

• Apply human genetics to target discovery, select indications for drug programs, and identify patient subgroups more likely to respond to treatment through genetic analyses.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary genetics team—including human genetics scientists, bioinformaticians, and statistical geneticists—to design, execute, and interpret genetics studies in ophthalmology and related fields.
• Partner with Genome Informatics, Analytical Genomics, Clinical Informatics, and other RGC teams to deliver high-quality scientific projects in the therapeutic areas.
• Generate, summarize, and present results in internal and external meetings to diverse audiences.
• Lead or contribute to the writing of scientific reports and publications.
• Represent the TAG team in cross-functional initiatives within RGC and Regeneron.
• Collaborate with external industry and academic partners in scientific consortia.

Requirements

• Demonstrated ability to design and lead human genetics studies delivering medically relevant findings in a team-based environment.
• Use of medical knowledge to define relevant phenotypes for genetic association studies and formulate innovative research questions.
• Familiarity with clinical genetics concepts and genetic models of disease.
• Experience leading complex human genetics research, knowledge of study designs (e.g., GWAS, exome/genome sequencing in cohort, case-control, or family-based studies), and ability to integrate diverse data resources to translate findings.
• Interest in understanding the genetic basis of neurological, psychiatric, ophthalmological, hearing-, and aging-related diseases and translating this knowledge into therapeutic insights.
• Thrive in a highly interactive, collaborative environment with a diverse team.
• Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to summarize and present genetic study results to varied audiences.

Qualifications

• MD or MD/Ph.D. with a strong background in human genetics or genetic epidemiology.
• Preferred: MD/Ph.D. with training in translational human genetics, genetic epidemiology (or related disciplines), and strong quantitative skills.
• Familiarity with statistical genetics applications (e.g., polygenic risk scores, quantitative trait analyses, Mendelian randomization) and tools (e.g., command-line interface, Python, R).
• Preferred: Experience combining genetics with other omics technologies (e.g., epigenetics, proteomics, RNA-seq).

Pay

Salary Range (annually): $176,100.00 - $287,300.00 (for jobs in Canada).
