About the role
The Illinois State Archaeological Survey (ISAS), Prairie Research Institute (PRI), University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, seeks an Associate Director for Research to oversee archaeological research projects, manage personnel and budgets, and advise on research policies.
Responsibilities
- Acquire and manage externally-funded archaeological research projects
- Manage personnel, budgets, policy, and administration for archaeological research projects
- Provide advice and guidance on archaeological research projects
- Seek external funding to promote ISAS and PRI research agendas
- Coordinate and facilitate organizational, financial, programming, and physical planning of archaeological research projects
- Ensure required reports are completed professionally and on time
- Assume primary responsibility for Survey operations in the Director's absence
Requirements
- Ph.D. in anthropology, archaeology or a closely related field
- Minimum of ten years of professional experience in archaeological research
- Relevant field experience in transportation archaeology
- Basic familiarity with Federal and Illinois historic and burial laws
- Administrative experience in personnel, facilities, and budget management
- Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale research projects and bring them to closure in a timely manner
- Demonstrated ability to obtain external funding
- Strong record of professional publication
- Demonstrated archaeological excavation and analysis experience in Illinois archaeological sites
- Familiarity with computer word processing, graphic, and database programs
Qualifications
- Knowledge of scientific and technical aspects of Eastern Woodlands archaeology
- Experience in personnel, facilities, and budget management
- Ability to manage large-scale research projects
- Ability to bring projects to closure in a timely and competent manner
- Ability to obtain external funding
- Professional publication record
- Experience in archaeological excavation and analysis in Illinois archaeological sites
- Familiarity with computer word processing, graphic, and database programs
