Associate Director, Counseling and Wellness Services

Responsibilities

  • Administer intake assessments and provide individual/group mental health counseling to medical students.
  • Identify and manage personal issues affecting academic performance and interfering with coursework, deadlines, or exam preparation.
  • Provide crisis intervention, triage appointments, and short-term therapy, including hospitalizations and on-call responsibilities.
  • Maintain timely department documentation (progress notes, case management notes, monthly statistics, etc.).
  • Contribute and assist in planning and implementing programs, workshops, and events related to mental health and other topics of interest to medical students.
  • Promote department programs through outreach efforts, including Instagram posts, fliers, and materials displayed on department bulletin boards.
  • Support faculty and staff in addressing medical students of concern.
  • Assist in implementing counseling and wellness policies and procedures at NYITCOM.
  • Participate in NYITCOM events such as orientations, white coat ceremonies, and commencement ceremonies.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling is required.
  • Required field of expertise in Counseling.
  • Licensure(s): New York state Licensure in Mental Health Counseling (LMHC) or in Social Work (LCSW) is required.
  • 3 to 5 years directly related experience or 5 to 8 years’ related experience.
  • Familiarity with therapy models and approaches appropriate for addressing a wide range of mental health concerns.
  • Excellent interpersonal, computer/technological (Microsoft Office products, electronic health record, and social media platforms), organizational, oral and written communication skills.
  • Cultural competence and ability to work with a diverse range of faculty, staff, and students.
  • Flexible schedule of day and evening hours.
  • Detailed orientation, self-motivation, and ability to work independently.
