About the role
The Associate Director is a key member of the Warehouse Finance team within Commercial Real Estate Finance (CREF). CREF provides secured debt financing solutions to public corporations, private equity sponsors, REITs, real estate credit funds, and institutional asset managers.
Responsibilities
- Drive a customer focused culture throughout the team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge. Acts as a role model for the team and an ambassador of the Bank’s values.
- Support the origination, structuring and execution of commercial real estate warehouse financing facilities. This involves creating cash flow models, performing collateral analysis, and reviewing legal documentation.
- Ensure all transactions adhere to the bank's credit policies, risk profile, and regulatory requirements. This professional provides oversight for the credit approval process and proactively manages the portfolio to mitigate potential risks.
- Lead transaction underwriting, collateral analysis, cash flow modeling, stress testing, and preparation of credit approval materials for complex financing transactions.
- Manage all aspects of transaction execution from initial screening through closing and funding.
- Monitor portfolio performance and proactively identify and mitigate credit, collateral, operational, and market risks.
- Partner with REGAL Corporate Banking and other business units on client coverage, business development initiatives, and cross-sell opportunities across the commercial real estate sector.
- Create an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct, and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
Requirements
- Experience in CRE underwriting, financing, and structuring
- BA/BS degree in finance, economics, real estate, or related discipline preferred
- Strong valuation, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
