About the role
The Associate Director, Clinical Operations is responsible for organizing, directing, and oversight of daily operations within Women's & Guerin Children's at Cedars-Sinai. This role involves management of operational programs and services, financial oversight, and staff management. The position assumes fiscal responsibility through preparation of operational, capital, and academic budgets. The Associate Director serves as a liaison with medical staff, ancillary departments, and other personnel to ensure patient advocacy, guides nursing staff in care provision, supports research, and participates in strategic planning for both long- and short-term departmental goals.
Responsibilities
- Promotes departmental focus by establishing goals consistent with organizational practice.
- Collaborates and coordinates interdepartmental problem-solving to enhance operational flow and department efficiency.
- Develops business and operation plans for departments and specific programs, including preparing, monitoring, and controlling budgets to ensure conformity with established goals.
- Manages monthly reports to explain variances and recommends corrective actions as needed.
- Reviews and approves departmental expenditures for appropriateness and compliance within budget; reduces expenses and generates increased revenue.
- Creates policies and procedures and implements performance improvement initiatives, including setting up data collection processes and reporting systems.
- Develops staffing plans to ensure appropriate staffing levels based on patient volume and activity.
- Responsible for hiring, maintaining and improving staff competencies, and facilitating staff development to increase skills, knowledge, and experience.
- Conducts performance reviews, disciplinary actions, and action plans.
- Supervises the day-to-day work of employees, assigns tasks, and ensures deadlines are met.
- Assures staff competency in providing age-related patient care, including appropriate assessments, interventions, and evaluations for adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient populations.
- Drives and ensures positive and effective full-service patient care, including patient advocacy.
- Serves as a role model in customer relations, provides feedback on patient comments, and participates in customer satisfaction initiatives.
- Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and municipal laws, regulations, and ordinances for respective clinical support programs.
- Maintains staff compliance with Cedars-Sinai policies, procedures, standards of care, clinical guidelines, and protocols.
- Maintains a positive work climate, ensures staff education, and fosters a self-directed environment.
- Applies Improving Organizational Performance principles in daily oversight of the department/unit.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Master's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Business Administration, Science in Nursing, or a related field strongly preferred.
- Five (5) years of experience within a healthcare setting such as medical, surgical, stroke, radiation, and/or related department/unit required.
- Four (4) years of experience managing academic clinical department(s), service line(s), and/or related areas required.
- Three (3) years of supervisory or management experience overseeing department(s)/service line(s) in a healthcare setting required.
- Experience in managing academic affairs strongly preferred.
- Travel required as needed by the department.
