About the role
The Associate Dean is responsible for supporting campus life and campus climate, the development and academic progress of students, and retention initiatives. The position involves investigating and adjudicating student conduct and academic integrity violations, recruiting, training, supervising, and developing the Hearing and Development Officer, and overseeing the recruitment, training, and evaluation of all Hearing Board members and Conduct Advisors.
Responsibilities
- Investigates and adjudicates student conduct and academic integrity violations.
- Interviews involved parties and decides the appropriate course of action.
- Prepares investigation reports and statements of charges.
- Follows up to ensure appropriate correspondence or records are written or created.
- Recruits, trains, supervises, and develops the Hearing and Development Officer.
- Affirms the effectiveness of the program through regular assessments and presentations.
- Reviews and develops policies and procedures impacting students' behavior.
- Works with faculty, administrative, and student groups to recommend or approve changes.
- Provides data analysis, conducts advising interviews, serves on university committees, and coordinates the student appeals process.
- Coordinates and provides academic support and advice for students placed on academic probation, suspension, or re-admission.
- Provides individual assistance to students to support academic improvement, progress toward graduation, and the university's educational mission.
- Serves as a liaison between students and college officials and faculty members in resolving academic and personal concerns.
- Conducts individual interviews with students, faculty, staff, parents, and others.
- Makes final decisions to uphold or accept policies carried out by other offices.
- Studies, initiates, and coordinates university-wide efforts to increase student retention.
- Maintains compliance with FERPA for student conduct records.
- Provides certification for agencies requesting student conduct information.
- Acts as a Title IX Hearing Administrator or Investigator.
- Assists with supervising departments reporting to the Office of the Dean of Students, specifically the Office of Residence Life.
Requirements
- A master's degree in Student Personnel Administration, Higher Education Administration, Counseling, or a related field is required; a doctorate is preferred.
- Seven years of experience in problem-solving in a university setting, demonstrating progressively increased student and administrative responsibilities, particularly in the area of academic misconduct adjudication and related processes.
- Five years of experience supervising full-time staff.
- Demonstrated experience investigating and managing student conduct and academic integrity cases, including appeals.
- Demonstrated understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and their impact on higher education, including academic integrity, student conduct processes, student support services, and administrative operations.
- Ability to evaluate emerging AI-related issues, interpret AI-generated evidence appropriately, and contribute to the development of policies, procedures, and educational initiatives related to the responsible use of AI.
- Demonstrated effectiveness as a culturally competent professional with broad experience interacting with and supporting the needs of a diverse student population.
- Demonstrated experience as a manager of complex organizational processes; demonstrated ability to analyze data to drive decisions.
- Demonstrated problem-solving and time management skills, and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Must be flexible in work hours and able to work some nights and weekends.
