Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship, College of Health Sciences

About the role

The Associate Dean for Research and Scholarship will serve on the College’s Administrative Leadership Team and lead the development and direction of the College’s research and scholarship activities, with an emphasis on cultivating externally funded, faculty-led programs of research targeting NIH, NSF, and major foundation support.

Responsibilities

• Provide vision and leadership in planning, goal setting, implementing, and evaluating the College’s research agenda and growth plan in collaboration with the Dean and College leadership.
• Regularly assess and report on research productivity to guide strategic planning.
• Advise the Dean on all matters relating to the College’s research and scholarship.
• Collaborate with the Chief Business Officer to support the smooth functioning of the pre- and post-award process.
• Develop and lead faculty mentoring programs to advance success in developing and sustaining fundable research across the College’s disciplines.
• Mentor PhD students in the development of grant proposals.
• Serve as a resource for interpreting relevant rules and regulations and liaise with University entities responsible for research.
• Facilitate and participate in the development of new research initiatives and collaborations with stakeholders from the University, government, and external partners.
• Coordinate with other Associate Deans for Research and the Office of the VP for Research and Economic Development to support University-wide research initiatives.
• Maintain a robust program of externally funded research at the R01 or equivalent level.
• Engage in teaching as appropriate.

Requirements

• PhD or equivalent research-focused degree in a health-related field.
• Sustained track record of NIH or equivalent funding.
• Current external research funding.
• Achievement of teaching, scholarship, and service commensurate with appointment at the rank of Professor eligible for tenure.
• Sustained publication record.
• Supervisory experience.
• Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency in written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups/populations.
• Experience working collaboratively.
