(Full-time) Associate Dean of Health Sciences
The Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District (Shasta College) is located at the northern end of the Sacramento Valley, surrounded by mountains. About the Role
Under the direction of the Division Dean, the Associate Dean of Health Sciences will provide innovative leadership in administering programs and courses within the Health Sciences division. This role serves as the director of nursing programs and manages assigned departments, including budget oversight and coordination with campus and community partners to align with the District’s Strategic Plan. The position is overtime-exempt, requires strong communication and leadership skills, and involves supervising faculty and support staff.
Responsibilities
- Serve as director of the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN), Licensed Vocational Nursing (LVN), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), and Medical Assisting (MA) programs.
- Ensure compliance with licensing, accrediting, and regulatory agencies, including the Board of Registered Nursing (BRN), Board of Vocational Nursing (BVNPT), California Department of Public Health (CDPH), and the Nursing Practice Act.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate program goals, objectives, policies, and services aligned with the College mission; coordinate program review and area planning with faculty.
- Oversee curriculum development, instructional methods, equipment, and program evaluation; modify as needed.
- Manage student selection, admission, progression, and record-keeping for program outcomes.
- Prepare and assign class schedules and teaching assignments to optimize program benefits.
- Monitor faculty load and assignments in the Health Sciences division.
- Act as liaison between the college and community healthcare agencies for clinical facility planning and contractual agreements.
- Interpret and apply policies for mediation and conflict resolution with students, faculty, staff, and external entities.
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and processes to improve student learning outcomes.
- Supervise staff and faculty, including work prioritization, performance evaluations, training, hiring, and disciplinary actions.
- Develop and administer department work plans; monitor workflow and evaluate work products and procedures.
- Manage program budgets, control expenditures, and ensure fiscal responsibility.
- Engage in professional development to remain current in the field.
- Direct research development; provide reports and recommendations on staffing, scheduling, enrollment, and services.
- Participate in administrative, board, and department meetings.
- Stay informed about current ideas, research, and practices in health sciences education.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education:
- A master’s or higher degree from an accredited college or university, including coursework in nursing education or nursing administration.
- One (1) year of administrative experience consistent with the Nursing Practice Act, Section 1420(h).
- Two (2) years of teaching experience in pre- or post-licensure registered nursing programs.
- One (1) year of continuous, full-time (or equivalent) direct patient care as a registered nurse.
- OR equivalent experience/education certified by the Board of Registered Nursing.
- Possession of a clear and active license to practice as a registered nurse in California.

Pay
This position is classified as Range 50 on the Administrative Salary Schedule, with a 12-month, 40-hour-per-week work assignment (Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.). New administrative appointments start at step 1 and advance to the next step on July 1st of the following year after 5 months of satisfactory service, with annual step increases up to a maximum of step 5. Salary placement may be negotiable for candidates with prior experience in the same position at another community college (up to step 3, depending on years of service).
