About the role

The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs is responsible for assessment of didactic and clinical education for the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine (AZCOM) Dean’s office. The duties and responsibilities of this position will fall into four categories: teaching, research, service and administration.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a faculty development plan to the Dean annually.
  • Participate in teaching students in his/her area of expertise.
  • Review COMLEX performance with AZCOM faculty on an annual basis.
  • Update COMLEX performance data on the AZCOM Fast Facts website annually.
  • Facilitate remediation of students who fail any section of COMLEX.
  • Provide student performance data to the Curriculum Committee to assist with course reviews.
  • Aid the Associate Dean for Curricular Integration and Faculty Development with assessment of pre-clinical academic student performance.
  • Aid the Associate Dean for Clinical Education with assessment of clinical and post-rotation examination student performance.
  • Aid the Associate Dean for Clinical Education with tracking of residency placement results, residency program director surveys, alumni surveys, and other data collected relating to student performance.
  • Oversee the Director of Assessment and support the Dean with the management of students on leaves of absence to ensure they stay on track for graduation and residency placement.
  • Aid Associate Dean for Clinical Education with maintenance of the Residency Placement Match Tool and faculty development on its use for student advising.
  • Participate and mentor clinical faculty in educational and/or other research.
  • Sponsor students in research projects supported by the AZCOM Dean’s Office.
  • Support faculty members in the Department of Clinical Education in developing their research.
  • Participate on University and college committees as assigned, including, but not limited to Curriculum Committee, and Clinical and Preclinical Promotions Committees.
  • Participate in Admissions as an interviewer.
  • Present Admissions talks on behalf of the Dean.
  • Participate in the AZCOM portion of Orientation.
  • Help to plan graduation activities for AZCOM students.
  • Participate in faculty development programming as a presenter.
  • Aid in Medical Student Performance Evaluations annually.
  • Represent AZCOM faculty at educational meetings.
  • Supervise and develop faculty and staff in the Department of Assessment.
  • Advise faculty in the Department of Assessment regarding promotion in rank advancement.
  • Oversee and develop AZCOM’s Department of Assessment budget annually.
  • Do performance evaluations annually for all faculty and staff reporting to the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
  • Aid with annual update of the Midwestern University, Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine catalog and AZCOM website.
  • Aid in the development of annual AACOM reports.
  • Aid the Dean with accreditation compliance for AZCOM, including all required annual and mid-cycle reporting.
  • Aid with annual MWU outcomes assessment programming.
  • Manage AZCOM exit and alumni surveys.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D. from an accredited college in an appropriate field.
  • Remain current in his/her field of education and demonstrate proven experience in teaching and academic leadership in medical education.

Salary is commensurate with experience.
