Associate Community Organizer

About the Role

The Good Faith Network, part of the Direct Action and Research Training Center (DART), is a constituent-led, grassroots organization that builds people power to address the root causes of community problems. As a community organizer, you’ll unite diverse faith communities to fight injustices and create real, local change through collective action.

DART stands against fear, scarcity, and division, bringing people together across differences to act on shared values of abundance, love, hope, and promise. We believe racial and economic justice are fundamental to faith and that systemic change requires power in the public arena. Since 1982, we’ve organized interfaith coalitions to win justice.

Responsibilities

• Build relationships of trust with people of faith through one-on-one conversations, moving them from solitary struggle to collective action.
• Guide community members in researching local problems and developing leadership to address them.
• Organize direct action assemblies with hundreds or thousands of participants to demand accountability from decision-makers.
• Recruit new congregations to expand the coalition’s reach.
• Coordinate local trainings and an annual fundraising drive.

Requirements

• Passion for justice and a track record of acting on it.
• Ability to build strong relationships with people from all walks of life, regardless of personal faith or background.
• Respect for all faith traditions and excitement about uniting faith communities to “do justice.”
• Comfort working with people with whom you may have deep disagreements, and willingness to find common ground.
• Ability to work some evenings and weekends to accommodate community members.
• Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable car.
• No prior organizing experience necessary—training is provided.
• Ability to travel for several training events throughout the year.

Training and Development

DART invests heavily in training and development. In your first year, you’ll receive:

• Five-day initial classroom-style training.
• Five months of intensive on-the-job training.
• One-on-one mentoring from experienced DART consultants.
• Three multi-day trainings with organizers across the country.

Ongoing professional development includes individualized coaching, mentoring, and local, regional, and national staff trainings.
