About the Opportunity

The Associate Clinical Administrative Coordinator role supports the healthcare process by managing authorizations, referrals, and coordination activities that ensure patients receive appropriate care. This position contributes to the continuity and quality of care by facilitating communication between care managers, providers, and patients. The role requires flexibility to work rotating evening shifts, including holidays and weekends, to meet business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate superior customer service skills with internal and external customers
  • Input inpatient and outpatient authorizations for acute care and skilled nursing facilities
  • Notify care managers of admission and eligibility issues
  • Process and update referrals for acute care, observation, day surgery, and SNF admissions within required timeframes
  • Distribute authorizations and referrals to providers and facilities by mail, fax, or verbally
  • Monitor fax queues for admission notifications
  • Accurately complete data entry and documentation
  • Process referrals for durable medical equipment and coordinate home health services
  • Redirect referrals to utilization management or medical director when appropriate
  • Handle incoming referrals independently and prioritize tasks
  • Direct providers and patients to contracted networks and update patient information
  • Provide length of stay information for SNF benefit exhaustion
  • Arrange post-discharge appointments
  • Facilitate communication among care managers to ensure continuity of care
  • Exercise critical thinking to manage calls, referrals, and related issues
  • Assist with telephone answering and maintenance of files and reports
  • Serve as a resource for team members
  • Participate in flexible weekday scheduling and weekend/holiday rotations
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement
  • Meet or exceed productivity targets
  • Comply with HIPAA standards for patient information
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting (doctor’s office, medical insurance provider, or acute care)
  • Proficiency with computers and Windows PC applications; ability to learn complex systems
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to work with multiple computer platforms simultaneously
  • Availability for full-time work with flexible 8-hour shifts between 3:00 pm and 11:30 pm PST, including rotating evenings, holidays, and weekends

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 coding
  • Basic understanding of managed care principles

Telecommuting Requirements

  • Residence within Pacific Standard Time zone
  • Ability to secure company sensitive documents
  • Dedicated private work area for information privacy
  • Access to UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection

Pay Range and Compensation Package

The hourly pay range is from $16.00 to $29.00 based on full-time employment. Pay depends on local labor markets, education, experience, certifications, and other factors.
