ASSOCIATE CIVIL ENGINEER
About the role
The position of Associate Civil Engineer at Los Angeles County Public Works involves performing a combination of tasks including design and construction of civil engineering projects, personnel management, and supervision.
Responsibilities
- Applies principles and practices of civil engineering including design and construction of varied projects.
- Plans, coordinates, and oversees engineering activities, programs, or projects.
- Reviews and evaluates progress and results for technical quality and conformity to established standards.
- Organizes and expresses information in comprehensive reports and may present conclusions orally.
- Participates in engineering research work involving investigation of specific problems and development of new methods, procedures, and systems.
- Prepares contracts and specifications for major engineering projects.
- Serves as resident engineer during construction of bridges and other projects.
- Designs public works projects or supervises as project engineer or squad leader.
- Assists in supervision of waterworks improvements and design, long-range planning projects, state and federal aid programs, inspection of construction materials, development of sewer master plans, pollution control projects, or subdivision and parcel map review.
- Supervises engineering work involved in ground water research, road maintenance, design, water or material quality testing, establishment of lighting districts, operation and maintenance of pumping plants, dams and other flood control facilities, water conservation or erosion control studies, or investigation and approval of various construction-related permits.
- Coordinates activities with other divisions and outside agencies in the analysis of boundary, centerline, and section line surveys.
Requirements
- A Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited engineering college or university.
- A valid California State Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer.
- A valid California Class C Driver License or an alternative method of transportation.
Qualifications
To qualify, applicants must provide a legible copy of their official diploma, official transcript, or letter/certificate from an accredited institution within 5 business days of filing their application. The document should show the date the degree was conferred and be in English; if not in English, then translation is required. International degrees must be evaluated for equivalency to U.S. standards if not listed in the International Handbook of Universities or World Higher Education Database.
