About the role
The City of Concord is seeking to fill one limited-term Associate Civil Engineer vacancy. This position will focus on capital improvement projects and broader civil works City-wide; term to end 6/30/2028.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with different City departments including Public Works, Transportation, and Recreation Services; as well as the Current Development, Planning, and Building divisions of Community Development; with the end goal of completing critical Capital Improvement Projects as programmed in the City's two year Capital Budget.
- Provide engineering project control on a variety of capital construction or maintenance projects related to the City's buildings, structures, and facilities.
- Manage projects, contribute to innovations and improvements made to the Capital Improvement Program, which align with the Mission, Vision, and Values of the City of Concord.
- Review and analyze architectural and engineering work of consulting firms and provide architectural and/or engineering design or related services.
- Negotiate contracts, obtain permits, establish budget and maintain schedules.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with others.
- Represent the City in meetings and presentations to various groups, including community groups, other governmental agencies, and the public.
- Apply engineering knowledge to solve problems and carry through assignments with independence.
- Thrive in a team environment that encourages cooperation, communication, and mutual sharing of risk, responsibility, and reward.
Requirements
- Significant knowledge of materials, methods, and techniques in the design and construction of civil engineering projects.
- Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, ordinances, codes, and engineering standards pertaining to the design and construction of public works projects.
- Ability to effectively utilize computer applications, including the latest version of AutoCAD Civil3D.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with others.
- Ability to represent the City in meetings and presentations to various groups, including community groups, other governmental agencies, and the public.
- Skills in applying engineering knowledge to solve problems and carry through assignments with independence.
- Thrive in a team environment that encourages cooperation, communication, and mutual sharing of risk, responsibility, and reward.
Qualifications
- Significant working knowledge of the concepts, precedents, principles, laws, practices, methods, standards, procedures, and techniques pertinent to municipal engineering, including the mechanics of solids (particularly of soils), hydraulics, theory of structure, strength of materials, engineering geology, and surveying.
- Working knowledge of engineering economics and cost estimating.
- Working knowledge of basic supervisory and safety practices.
