Dartmouth Health is seeking its inaugural Associate Chief Medical Officer for Dartmouth Home Health, a key leader to provide senior clinical, academic, and strategic leadership for its home-based care portfolio, including the Hospital at Home program and broader Dartmouth Home Health initiative.

About the role

Reporting to the CEO Dyad for Dartmouth Home Health for operational matters and to the Chair of the Department of Medicine for clinical matters, the Associate Chief Medical Officer is the primary physician leader responsible for designing, governing, and scaling hospital-level and longitudinal care delivered in the home. This role partners with leaders across Dartmouth Health to guide strategy for home-based care expansion, focusing on clinical excellence, patient and caregiver safety, workforce sustainability, and financial viability.

The role also drives clinical integration and strategy across the Department of Medicine, Dartmouth Health Home Care (formerly Visiting Nurse and Hospice), and The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy & Clinical Practice (TDI) to ensure alignment. The mission is to develop a nationally relevant, rural-centered model of home-based care that improves outcomes for patients and caregivers and can be scaled beyond the Upper Valley to rural health care centers across the country.

Responsibilities

  • Provide senior clinical, academic, and strategic leadership for Dartmouth Health’s home-based care portfolio, including the Hospital at Home program and broader Dartmouth Home Health initiative.
  • Work with the leadership team to create home-based primary care, home-based palliative care programs, and an institute for caregivers.
  • Ensure clinical excellence, patient and caregiver safety, workforce sustainability, and financial viability for home-based care programs.
  • Guide strategy for home-based care expansion in partnership with leaders across Dartmouth Health.
  • Maintain a clinical practice within the context of the larger program.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree and American Board Certification in their specialty (Internal Medicine training preferred, but other training paths considered if significant home-based care experience exists).
  • Minimum of 10 years in clinical practice.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in home care leadership.
  • Experience within a matrixed health system preferred.
  • Expected to live within a reasonable commuting distance to Dartmouth Health’s headquarters in Lebanon, NH.
