Associate Certified Nursing Assistant (DOH/FBMC #13761+)

About the role

This position provides direct personal care and related support to long-term care facility residents to maintain quality care services and an optimum quality of life. Resident care assignments may include Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric age groups. The role ensures adherence to Department of Health and facility policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Answer patient call signals, signal lights, bells, or intercom systems to determine patients’ needs.
• Turn or reposition bedridden patients.
• Provide physical support to assist patients with daily living activities, including getting out of bed, bathing, dressing, using the toilet, standing, walking, or exercising.
• Review patients’ dietary restrictions, food allergies, and preferences to ensure appropriate diet.
• Measure and record food and liquid intake or urinary and fecal output, reporting changes to medical or nursing staff.

Requirements

• Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
• Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, and the general public.
• Willingness to handle difficult residents with patience, tact, a cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm.
• Ability to function independently with flexibility, personal integrity, and effectiveness when working with residents, personnel, and support agencies.

Qualifications

• Certification as a Certified Medication Aide (CMA), Home Health Aide (HHA), or Nursing Aide (CNA), or eligible to attain certification.
• Must possess and maintain a current Certified Nursing Assistant Certification from the State of New Mexico or receive certification within four months of hire as a condition of continued employment.

Employment Requirements

• This position is designated as safety sensitive; employment is subject to pre-employment and random alcohol and/or drug testing under federal and state law.
• Will be screened for tuberculosis upon hire.
• Employment is subject to a nationwide criminal background check pursuant to the New Mexico Caregivers Criminal Screening Act.

Working Conditions

• Works throughout the nursing service area (e.g., nurse’s stations, resident rooms).
• Moves intermittently during working hours and is subject to frequent interruptions.
• Interacts with residents, personnel, visitors, and government agencies; may encounter hostile or emotionally upset individuals.
• Communicates with medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department directors.
• Works beyond normal hours, on weekends and holidays, and may be subject to call back during emergencies.
• Exposure to infectious waste, diseases, and conditions is possible.
• Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a height of 5 feet and carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
