About the role
This work involves responsibility for assisting in the representation of indigent defendants in Criminal Court as assigned by the Public Defender. Does related work as required. This position is for law school graduates who have not yet been fully licensed to practice law in New York State. Upon obtaining a New York State license to practice law, the incumbent will be appointed to a position of Assistant Public Defender with the corresponding salary grade.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the representation of indigent defendants in Criminal Court as assigned by the Public Defender.
- Perform related work as required.
Requirements
- Possession of a J.D., LL.B. or LL.M. Degree.
- The incumbent must obtain a license to practice law within one (1) year of the date of permanent appointment.
Qualifications
County residency not required in compliance with 2005 local law #4.
