Associate/Assistant Professor of Cancer Biology

Position Overview

The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of North Texas (UNT), a Hispanic-Serving Institution and Carnegie R1 Research University, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the area of Cancer Biology. Preference will be given to applicants with research interests in the areas of physiology and molecular biology of cancer, or development and application of immunotherapy methods for cancer treatment. The faculty member will contribute to and collaborate with our ongoing basic and applied research programs within the Department, as well as the College of Science's Cancer and Health Sciences cluster-hire initiative. Exceptional candidates with significant experience at the Assistant Professor level, or equivalent, may be considered for hire at the Associate Professor level.

Responsibilities

• Obtain external funding to support a vibrant research program in their discipline
• Engage in mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral fellows
• Effectively teach courses in their area of expertise
• Actively participate in relevant regional, national, and international research communities within their disciplines
• Interact with faculty, staff, and students within and between departments at UNT, including members from the Advanced Environmental Research Institute (AERI) and the BioDiscovery Institute (BDI)
• Form collaborations with the Department of Biomedical Engineering, the College of Public Health, and the UNT Health Science Center

Minimum Qualifications

• Earned doctoral degree in Biological Sciences or related field
• Postdoctoral experience in Cancer Biology or related field
• Ability to conduct research on, work on, or have the ability to access critical organizational infrastructure and maintain the security and integrity of the infrastructure related to this role

Preferred Qualifications

• Three-years postdoctoral or equivalent experience in Cancer Biology
• A proven record or potential to obtain external funding to support an active research program
• A growing record of scholarship and publication in higher tier journals appropriate to the applicant's field of study
• A record demonstrating the potential for excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching
